With deep regret we announce the passing of Pat Durgin on June 17, 2019

Click here for her online obituary with a guestbook. Should anyone wish to honor Pat's memory, the family requests that contributions in her name be made to PBS (Public Broadcasting Service), at https://www.pbs.org/donate. Pat did not want a funeral but perhaps there will be a memorial service in the future.

A New Mexico artist and resident for over 50 years, Pat painted not only Southwest landscapes but an unending variety of subject matter with a sensitive yet realistic style that has a softness and glow seldom found in modern oil paintings. Her "penthouse" studio atop her Albuquerque home provided the atmosphere and light needed to produce these peaceful and compelling fine art works.

Artist's Philosophy

I feel humans have a need for creativity. We are all born with this urge for self-expression. When fulfilled, there is the reward of accomplishment, peace, and inner joy. There are many methods of self-expression; for me, it's oil painting. I feel such well-being, contentment and serenity when I am painting that it's like being in church and wanting to be a missionary for the cause.

To attempt to reproduce God's beauty allows the eyes, mind and heart to open and begin to really appreciate the things so often taken for granted. Whether an artist ever becomes 'successful' is not the point. It's much more important that our lives become receptive and fulfilled as awareness is sharpened and the enjoyment heightened.
